This week and last has been me tucked away in my office working on some fun pieces for a brand new client, Toronto Life magazine.  So excited to be finishing them up this week and have them actually going to print sometime soon.

My Writing Week
My wife’s out of town this week, and I’ve had several days off after finishing a bunch of projects that seemed to all pile up the past two weeks.  So, I decided this is a good time to sit down and act like a writer.  I’ve had one issue (or chapter, rather) completly written and drawn of this graphic novel that’s been gestating for about a year and a half now.  The rest of the story until now has existed merely as a messy folder full of unorganized storyline ideas and notes on themes, with lots of scratched out diagrams and feverish notes.  But all that has changed.  Yesterday and today I had HUGE breakthroughs in getting this thing in gear! Yesterday, I left my computer at home, sat down with my notebook and a coffee at Barnes and Noble and knocked out the next THREE (count ‘em, three) chapters/issues of the story.  And today, I went back and did the same thing, this time knocking out rough, yet organized outlines for the entire remainder of the book! I now know how the story ends, I know exactly how many issues/chapters it will be (12), roughly what needs to happen in each chapter to tell the story as efficiently as possible, and best of all, roughly how many pages of artwork it will be.  I’ve been avoiding this part of the writing process for a year now, never wanting to make a commitment to any of the floating snippets and ideas in my head.  But now, it just feels incredible knowing exactly what this “book” is.

Serious question to true-blue Android users.

How do you feel about Amazon (and too a much lesser extent Fusion Garage) forking Android, stripping out basically everything that makes it what it’s supposed to be, and locking down the systems?

Sure, these companies are totally allowed to do this. “Open”, right? But what if these non-Android Android tablets eat the lunch of “traditional” Android tablets?

Did any of that make sense?

Singh, who attributes his success to ginger curry, cups of tea and “being happy”, has long been acclaimed as the “Turbaned Tornado” – the title of his biography, published last year, which he unfortunately has not been able to read because he is illiterate.

DISCLAIMER: I’m on the Android team at Google. The views expressed in this post are mine alone and not those of my employer.

One of the major complaints about Android development is that the layout preview tool in the ADT plugin for Eclipse lacks true WYSIWYG editing capabilities….

Since returning from Afghanistan last week, I’ve been worried about a debt past due. What do I mean? Well, there’s a small story here, and it’s about this website and the other social media tools that we have been using to push news alongside the daily bread at the NYT. And the background is…
